Valencia have extended Carlos Corberán’s contract to June 2028, the announcement landing on the squad’s first day back. The agreement had been in place for months, but last season’s fight for survival until the penultimate matchday delayed it.

The club held the reveal until the start of 2026-27. Kiat Lim and Ron Gourlay view Corberán as the figure to steady the project, take Valencia back into Europe and, crucially, be the first to take the Nou Mestalla dugout.

If he sees out this new deal, he would become the longest-serving coach of the Lim era, at 1283 days in charge.

That remains a big ask in such a turbulent period, yet simply having the chance is notable. To date he has logged 559 days, after being unveiled in the early hours of Christmas Day 2024.

The benchmark remains Marcelino, who led Valencia for two full seasons and a few months before a swift dismissal on 11 September 2019, shortly after lifting the Copa and with the campaign barely started. His tenure totalled 853 days.

Second on the list is Rubén Baraja, who took over on 14 February 2022 to chase a near-impossible escape, succeeded, signed on for two more seasons and was dismissed on 23 December 2024, a spell of 678 days. Along with Marcelino, he is the only coach to work across three different seasons, a group Corberán will join on the opening league match.
