Corinthians defender reflects on home draw with Botafogo in the Brasileirão

On the afternoon of this Sunday (30), Corinthians faced Botafogo at Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the 36th round of the Brazilian Championship, and drew with a score of 2 x 2. The goals for the Corinthians team were scored by Raniele and Gustavo Henrique. The draw left the Alvinegro in ninth place with 46 points (12 wins, 10 draws, and 14 losses).

Right after the match, still on the pitch, the scorer of the second goal, Gustavo Henrique, gave an interview to Premiere and analyzed the match, lamenting the tie and mentioning the poor start to the second half by the team against the Rio de Janeiro side: “For me, it’s a missed opportunity (to win). We played a great first half. We commented that Botafogo’s team is a very high-quality side and made some changes that made our marking more difficult.”

He adds: “We took too long, especially at the start of the second half, to understand that, we dropped our marking up front and they started to grow, to get into the game. Playing at home, we always have to win, especially after going up 1-0. We conceded the turnaround, but the important thing is that we didn’t give up and at least managed to get the draw,” he said.

Gustavo Henrique was signed at the start of 2024 after a stint in Spanish football and has since become one of the pillars of Corinthians. Since his arrival, he has scored six goals—four of them in 2025 alone—and provided two assists in 70 games (66 as a starter), with 35 wins, 12 draws, and 23 losses. He was a starter in the 2024 Brasileirão run and finished the 2025 Paulistão, won by the Alvinegro against Palmeiras, among the starting eleven.

After the draw against Botafogo at home in the Brazilian Championship, Corinthians will remain focused on the national competition. Next Wednesday (3), at 7:00 p.m. (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will visit Fortaleza at Arena Castelão for the 37th and penultimate round of the national competition.
