Corinthians’ Deliberative Council meets at Parque São Jorge on Monday evening to vote on a major reform of the club’s statute. First call 18:00 Brasília time, second 19:00.
According to Globo.com, 200 triennial councillors and 90 lifetime members will attend, with approval needing a simple majority of those present. Organised supporters called members to gather outside from 16:00.
The statute sets internal rules and the rights and duties of associates, councillors, directors, the president and vice-presidents. After the vote, council president Romeu Tuma Júnior will call a general assembly for associates, expected in April, date to be set.
Sensitive proposals include the potential conversion into a Sociedade Anônima do Futebol, SAF, with requirements and limits. Another would give Fiel Torcedor members voting rights, whereas currently only club associates may vote.
The overhaul also extends terms from three to four years for councillors, the president and vice-presidents.
Unlike recent elections, Monday’s ballot will be open, with councillors identified. The reform commission will finalise the procedure shortly before the meeting, likely splitting the project by themes.
Items may be decided by acclamation, supporters remaining seated and opponents recorded in the minutes. Otherwise, voting will be nominal at the microphone, which is mandatory for headline items such as Fiel Torcedor suffrage.
Given the volume of blocks and articles, the sitting should last at least two hours. The project has faced criticism from councillors, and last week the Conselho de Orientação advised a partial vote limited to key items based on the current statute.
