Corinthians have made an enquiry for Rony but talks have not progressed, as the club weighs attacking options in the window. The approach has drawn discontent among supporters.

"He is a player everyone knows, a player who has stood out at some Brazilian clubs. In a window many names naturally appear. Rony’s status is an enquiry, a conversation, nothing extremely advanced," said executive Marcelo Paz, speaking to CazéTV.

"It is not closed, as was reported. We respect the reporting. He is a player I would class as monitored. We know him, he plays many games each year, has an injury history, goals and assists, he has his quality."

"He is being monitored, which is natural in a window. We follow him and may make contact. Some of those contacts become public and his name did, which created attention."

Up front, the squad currently includes Gui Negão, Yuri Alberto, Memphis Depay, Kayke, Vitinho and Pedro Raul, with Talles Magno and Ángel Romero not renewed at the turn of the year.

Corinthians have confirmed Gabriel Paulista, Matheus Pereira and Uruguayan right-back Pedro Milans, and an agreement is advanced for goalkeeper João Ricardo, currently at Fortaleza. Forward Kaio César of Al-Hilal is expected to be announced.
