Corinthians lost 2-0 to Internacional at Beira-Rio on Sunday, stretching their winless run at the ground to nine matches for more than 10 years. Matheus Bahia and Alan Patrick scored for the hosts.

The sequence began in 2017 with back-to-back 1-1 draws in the Copa do Brasil second phase, and Corinthians went out on penalties after the return at Neo Química Arena. From there, the meetings were confined to the league.
In 2018 came the first defeat of the span, Internacional winning 2-1 through Leandro Damião and Rossi, with Mateus Vital replying. The next encounters were stalemates, 0-0 in 2019 and 2020, 2-2 in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and 1-1 last season.
The sides are due to meet again in the Brasileirão's 29th round, slated for early October, with date and venue to be confirmed. Before then, Corinthians try to overturn the tie at home on Thursday at 20:00, and if they win by two goals the quarter-final place will be settled on penalties.
