Corinthians supporters have launched a social media campaign urging the club to keep Memphis Depay, whose contract expires on 20 June. Renewal talks remain unresolved.
According to Meu Timao, users pushed the hashtag #RenovaComMemphis to number one on X’s trending topics in Brazil within hours.
The board has explored ways to finance an extension, meeting companies to cover 100% of his wages for commercial deals. Depay wants to stay and has accepted a pay cut, yet hurdles remain.
A key issue is Esportes da Sorte, the main sponsor, which is not expected to help fund a new agreement. It had initially signalled willingness, as during his September 2024 arrival, but talks have not advanced.
Depay’s current deal, signed in September 2024, includes a signing-on fee, appearance, goal and assist bonuses, plus salary and image rights, about R$ 3 million per month. After this year’s sponsorship renewal, roughly R$ 57 million is no longer allocated solely to his contract.
Any stay also hinges on renegotiating an estimated R$ 40 million owed to the forward in accumulated bonuses and awards.
Corinthians may keep talks running into the World Cup, when he could play the tournament without a club contract. Four matches remain before the deal ends, and although he has resumed full training he has been ruled out of Thursday’s Libertadores match against Peñarol of Uruguay.
That would leave Atlético-MG in the Brazilian league and Platense on Wednesday, 27 May, plus Grêmio in Porto Alegre on 30 May, though the Netherlands’ call-up that day is expected to rule him out.
