On Wednesday afternoon, Teatro Tucarena at PUC São Paulo hosted REDemocracia Corinthiana, launching a push to draft a club constitution and revive democratic spirit at Corinthians.
According to Meu Timao, fans, club councillors and prosecutor Cássio Conserino, who is investigating former club presidents, were in the audience. Journalist Juca Kfouri presented, joined on stage by Basílio, Casagrande, Wladimir, Sócrates Júnior, Eco Moliterno, Cássio Brandão and Rappin Hood.
Kfouri recalled the 1980s Democracia Corinthiana and said the new initiative takes its cue from that period. He voiced hope that pressure from outside can help cleanse the club and put the Fiel Torcida back at the centre.
Moliterno argued the club must stop the bleeding and that only popular mobilisation can achieve it. He said he has no political ambition at Parque São Jorge, aiming only to spark a process to democratise Corinthians through a constitution.
Brandão outlined a representative group of 77 Corinthians supporters to reflect the club’s 35 million fans, tasked with drafting the text. He said it should defend the institution, repudiate corruption and is slated for presentation on 1 September, the club’s foundation day.
Casagrande and Wladimir shared personal reflections, while Sócrates Júnior, Homero Olivetto, Chico Malfitani, Marília Ruiz and actress Alessandra Negrini offered support. Closing, Kfouri said the drafting group should span right, centre and left, include views for and against SAF, and reiterated a desire to reclaim Corinthians.
