Corinthians hit with new transfer ban over late Raniele payment to CNRD

This Monday, the 20th, Corinthians was penalized by the National Dispute Resolution Chamber (CNRD) of the CBF with a six-month transferban for delayed payment to Cuiabá regarding the purchase of midfielder Raniele. The sanction prevents the Alvinegro from registering new players until the situation is resolved and was imposed after the non-payment of an installment of about R$ 780 thousand, which was due last Friday, the 17th.

The information was initially reported by the portal ge.globo, according to which Cuiabá approached the entity requesting immediate action after the delay occurred. Corinthians maintains that the deadline was still within the tolerance provided in the agreement, allowing for five additional days for payment, which would extend the limit to Wednesday, the 22nd.

Cuiabá, however, argues that the agreement in the CNRD does not allow for an extension of the due date, and that the five-day period mentioned by Corinthians was merely a timeframe for sending the payment proof. It is worth noting that the delay is not unprecedented: in July, the club had already alerted the CNRD about a delay in the first installment and requested a warning to the Alvinegro management.

The decision of the transferban was based on a clause in the agreement ratified in the CNRD that stipulates that repeated delays can result in a minimum suspension of six months, even after the payment is regularized. Corinthians will request reconsideration after paying the installment.

Raniele was signed by Corinthians in January last year for 2.5 million euros (about R$ 13 million), being one of the first reinforcements of the former president Augusto Melo's administration. Only the first installment was paid on time. Since then, the midfielder has accumulated 101 games for the club, 92 as a starter, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
