Corinthians lose 1-0 in LNF, slip back towards relegation places | OneFootball

Corinthians lost 1-0 at Umuarama in Paraná on Saturday, leaving them closer to the LNF relegation places.

According to Meu Timao, a brief respite from relegation worries had preceded the weekend. A 3-1 win over Tubarão in the 10th round had lifted the side into the play-off places, but the Umuarama defeat put that progress at risk.

After 11 rounds, Corinthians have only two wins and sit 13th on eight points. They are level with São José in 14th and one clear of Marreco and Santo André, the league’s bottom side.

São José and Marreco have already played this round and cannot affect Corinthians’ position. Santo André still face Joinville on Monday, and a win would take them above Corinthians and leave the Parque São Jorge club 14th, the relegation play-off place.

Relegation and a play-off are new this season in the LNF. The teams finishing 15th and 16th go down automatically, while 14th contest a two-legged tie against the third-placed side in LNF Silver.

Corinthians host Minas at Ginásio Wlamir Marques, Fazendinha, on Friday 10 at 19:30 in the 12th round, an opportunity to move away from danger that will require a win.
