Matheus Pereira’s minutes at Corinthians have dipped since Diniz arrived, and the midfielder now needs to prove himself to regain his place in the second half of the season.
According to Meu Timao, he joined on loan after a strong spell at Fortaleza to cover Maycon’s exit to Atlético Mineiro in January, but his early numbers have lagged behind last year’s.
He made 20 appearances for Fortaleza with two goals and three assists, plus five bookings. At Corinthians he has yet to contribute to a goal and has six yellows.
The coaching change has cut his opportunities. Under Diniz he has featured in six of 16 matches, compared with a 65% appearance rate under Dorival Júnior and 37.50% now.
There is hope the World Cup pause and a June to July training block can help him reset. Corinthians return on 23 July, a Thursday, at 19:30 against Remo at Neo Química Arena.
This season for Corinthians he has 22 appearances, 13 starts, and the team’s record in his games is 10 wins, 6 draws and 6 defeats. His points yield stands at 54.55%, with no goals, two titles, and a fan rating of 4.76 from 31,849 votes.
