Corinthians missed the chance to go top of the Paulistão, losing 3-0 to Red Bull Bragantino at the Estádio Municipal de Bragança to end the second round eighth on three points.

They began in fourth and needed a win to overtake Palmeiras on goal difference, who have six points from two games. According to Meu Timao, the away defeat ended hopes of reaching first place.

Dorival Júnior’s side dropped four spots. São Bernardo, Mirassol and Novorizontino are fifth to seventh respectively, all on three points with superior goal difference.

Santos, São Paulo and Capivariano also have three but sit below, and Botafogo de Ribeirão Preto are 12th on two.

The top eight advance to the quarter-finals, the bottom two are relegated to Série A2. Quarters and semis are single-leg ties at the better-record team’s ground, the final is two legs.

The unbeaten top four feature Velo Clube in fourth and Primavera in third, both on four. Palmeiras and Red Bull Bragantino lead with perfect records, Bragantino ahead on goal difference.

Ponte Preta and Portuguesa remain without a point, with the Macaca bottom. Guarani are 14th on one, level with Noroeste in 13th.

Corinthians host São Paulo at the Neo Química Arena on Sunday 18 January at 16:00 in round three.
