Corinthians have been ordered at first instance by the Labour Court to pay just over R$ 3 million to former full-back Daniel Marcos, who retired in January aged 23. According to ge.globo, his claim says an under-20 injury curtailed his career.

The award is below the R$ 5 million sought, but with R$ 149 thousand in fees and Selic correction the final sum should near R$ 3.5 million.

He damaged his right knee in December 2020 during an under-20 match against Grêmio, having signed a professional deal two years earlier. About 15 days later he had his first surgery.

With injury stability rights, he signed a new deal to December 2024 on a salary of R$ 17 thousand. In 2022 he joined Cianorte on loan, hurt the same knee again and had a second operation under Corinthians’ responsibility. The suit describes a difficult rehabilitation with repeated setbacks from pain and physical limits.

In May 2023 he moved to Ferroviário on loan but was returned after about 30 days as he was not fit to play. In June he had a third surgery.

Corinthians ended his contract in March 2024, paying R$ 131 thousand in severance. He then agreed terms with Resende in Rio de Janeiro but did not play. He later outlined experiences from his time at the club in interviews.

The club plans to appeal, given the ruling is only at first instance.
