Corinthians president Osmar Stabile says the club came close to selling André Luiz to Milan in recent weeks, before halting talks after an internal review and supporter reaction. The package could have reached €17 million.
"There was no bottling it. The decision not to sell the player for the proposed fee had already been taken. If you ask me whether I authorised Marcelo to proceed with the negotiations, I confirm it, I did. I do not shy away from my responsibility. However, during the process we understood the amount was not enough."
He was speaking to Rádio Bandeirantes.
Talks had advanced on a proposal to sell 70% of the midfielder’s economic rights for €15 million, plus €2 million in bonuses, but the deal was interrupted before completion.
"Who has never gone back on a decision after realising it was not beneficial for the institution? The club is not mine, it belongs to all of us. My job is to make the best decision for the institution. So if it is necessary to go back to preserve the club’s interests, I will do it with absolute certainty, always aiming for the best for everyone."
André debuted for the first team in September 2025 in a 1-0 win over Fluminense and has since played 24 matches, 10 as a starter, scoring four goals. He has earned a bigger role this season and on Monday was named the Campeonato Paulista’s ‘jogador revelação’.
Corinthians hold 70% of his rights after ceding 30% during a 2024 renewal. He now prepares for Corinthians’ next game against Coritiba at Neo Química Arena on Wednesday 11 March, in the fifth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
