Corinthians reject Santos bid to host Sudamericana second leg at Neo Química Arena

According to Globo.com, Santos sought to switch next week's Copa Sudamericana play-off return from Vila Belmiro to Neo Química Arena in São Paulo, but Corinthians rejected the request.

Santos beat Universidad Central 4-1 in the first leg last Tuesday in Venezuela. The second leg is scheduled for Tuesday, 28 July.

Corinthians are in the Conmebol Libertadores with fixtures planned for August. In the Brasileirão, they next play at home on 30 July against Athletico.

Given the proximity of the date and pitch conditions still short of ideal, the Corinthians board decided not to make the stadium available.

Santos can lose by up to two goals and still reach the last 16. A three-goal defeat would take the tie to penalties, and progression would be worth a further R$ 3 million in prize money.
