Corinthians send committee to Argentina over Garro debt

This Friday (9), Corinthians had its transfer ban lifted by FIFA after settling its debt with Santos Laguna of Mexico, related to the signing of defender Félix Torres, and is once again eligible to register new players. Even so, the board continues to seek agreements to avoid new sanctions from the entity.

The next pending issue the club must resolve concerns the signing of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo Garro. Corinthians has a debt of R$ 32 million for the acquisition of the player from Talleres, Argentina, two years ago, and is seeking an agreement to avoid a new transfer ban.

The Central do Timão team has learned that the club is expected to send a delegation to Argentina in the coming weeks, with the intention of negotiating in person with members of the Talleres board.

Those responsible for the negotiations are members of the club's strategic planning and financial restructuring committee. This team was also responsible for negotiating the debts with Santos Laguna and with midfielder Matías Rojas, who left Corinthians in 2024.

Announced by the club in October last year, the committee is coordinated by André Recoder and Gabriel Diniz Abrão, and also includes Carlos Roberto de Mello and Heleno Haddad Maluf.

In addition to the debt related to the signing of Rodrigo Garro, Corinthians still has other cases with FIFA being analyzed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that could result in further sanctions.

They are: 1 million euros (R$ 6.5 million) owed to Shakhtar Donetsk, Ukraine, regarding the latest loans of midfielder Maycon, who is about to be announced at Atlético-MG; R$ 8 million for the signing of midfielder José Martínez in mid-2024 from Philadelphia Union, USA; and also R$ 6.26 million with Midtjylland, Denmark, for the purchase of midfielder Charles, during mid-2024.
