Corinthians Women’s boss gives update on players after head clash

On the afternoon of this Wednesday, September 17, Corinthians and Juventude faced off in the round of 16 of the Women's Brasileirão. The knockout stage is contested in a single match, which ended with a score of 3-0 for Timão, with goals from Vic Albuquerque, Ariel Godoi, and Gisela Robledo.

After the match, coach Lucas Piccinato addressed the press, commenting on the incident in the second half between Letícia Monteiro and Letícia Teles, who collided heads during a ball dispute and had to leave the field. “It happened right in front of me, and I was a bit startled by the situation. It's a play, a game collision. Both ended up with quite a big bump on their heads. I think Monteiro got a slightly bigger bump, but Teles did too”, he said.

He continued, updating on both players' response to the concussion protocol activated by Corinthians: “They will have to follow it (protocol) to the letter. The responses they give in the next 24 hours are very important, especially regarding memory issues, whether they managed to sleep. Important issues for the concussion protocol, so we understand where they are within the protocol stage.”

The coach preferred to avoid giving a recovery timeline, emphasizing that it varies from athlete to athlete. “Obviously, our medical department will be monitoring as best as possible to understand how their situation will be. If they can't play over the weekend, obviously, it's two absences because they are two athletes who have also been improving a lot this season. But if they can play, they will certainly be available”, he explained.

The next game for the Brabas is on Saturday, the 20th, for the ninth round of the Women's Paulistão. Corinthians faces Santos at Fazendinha, starting at 11 am (Brasília time), and tickets are already being sold.
