Former Chelsea player Florent Malouda believes Alejandro Garnacho could follow a similar trajectory to Cole Palmer at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea signed Garnacho in a deal worth £40m from Manchester United in the summer, and he was one of five attacking signings.

The front line underwent a major revamp and alongside Garancho, Chelsea also signed Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro and Facundo Buonanotte.

Garnacho made it clear he only wanted to join Chelsea despite having offers from other clubs, and he was in the stands for the win against Fulham before the international break.

There have been question marks about the Argentine’s attitude, and Jamie Carragher tore into Garnacho for being on his phone during the Fulham game.

Garnacho, who will wear the number 49 shirt, has been training at Cobham during the break, and could make his debut on Saturday night against Brentford.

There’s been mixed feelings surrounding the signing, with Pat Nevin believing Garnacho isn’t the right fit, but Malouda has now had his say.

“Alejandro Garnacho has talent and could follow the Cole Palmer trajectory, he even has a similar price tag,” he said as quoted on X.com.

“It’s about delivering, unlike Jadon Sancho who wasn’t able to show his talent and make a difference.”

Chelsea have wealth of options in attack

Garnacho is set to battle it out with fellow summer signing Jamie Gittens for a place on the left wing in Enzo Maresca’s side.

What Garnacho has over Gittens is he knows the Premier League, and is arguably more ready than the England under-21 international to make an impact.

It will be interesting to see if the Argentina international features against Brentford having not had a pre-season with United, and that battle on the left wing throughout the season should be a fascinating one.

The Blues are spoilt for options in attack and could also use Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro on the left hand side if necessary.
