A civil court in Tatuapé has suspended the decision of a 23 March meeting convened by president Osmar Stabile that removed Romeu Tuma Júnior as president of Corinthians' Deliberative Council.

According to Globo.com, the first instance injunction, in a case filed by Tuma, was issued by judge Antonio Manssur Filho of the 2nd Civil Court, Regional VIII of Tatuapé, who identified four illegalities in the session.

He held that the club's statute makes clear that only the council president, not the board, can call councillors. He also noted that Tuma was removed without an Ethics Committee administrative process, breaching the article guaranteeing a full defence.

He further found that first secretary Maria Ângela de Souza Ocampos, acting as council chair, closed the meeting after deeming the call invalid, so its reopening by second secretary Denis Piovezan was null.

As a fourth flaw, the judge recorded that the statute provides no precautionary suspension of a council member by the plenary. He therefore reinstated Tuma and prohibited Stabile and Piovezan from any act against his exercise of the presidency.

Tuma had refused to recognise the removal at the time and stayed in post. He requested leave during the statute reform process, then returned.
