INEOS may have failed to sign a midfielder for the first team in the summer, but they are leaving no stone unturned to land the next midfield gem for the academy.
Colombian youngster Cristian Orozco has already signed a pre-agreement and is expected to join the Red Devils next summer.
United had also called 17-year-old Senegal midfielder Mouhamed Dabo for a trial at Carrington and he impressed coaches and there have been talks of an impending contract.
The co-owners are not done yet, with The Daily Mail reporting that the 20-time English league champions are monitoring Coventry City’s exciting midfield starlet George Shepherd.
The 16-year-old has already impressed for Coventry’s U21s, and in the process, he has caught the eye of first team manager Frank Lampard.
He was named on the bench for the Sky Blues’ recent Championship game against Blackburn Rovers.
The Englishman is on scholarship terms and is yet to pen a professional deal, and multiple clubs including United are monitoring proceedings with interest.
“Manchester United are monitoring Coventry City’s exciting starlet George Shepherd.
“The 16-year-old was named on the first team bench by manager Frank Lampard for Saturday’s Championship game against Blackburn Rovers.
“It comes after the midfielder impressed making his first appearance for the club’s U21s earlier this season. And Lampard has been quick to reward the teenager’s progression by including him in their promotion-chasing squad.
“However, Shepherd is still on scholarship forms and has yet to be offered professional terms by the Sky Blues. Other clubs have become aware of his situation and have started to pay closer attention to his performances.”
George Shepherd is an attacking midfielder and scored on his debut for Coventry’s U21s. It will be interesting to see if INEOS can pull off this deal.
Their focus on the academy is a refreshing change from the Glazers regime, which hardly took an active interest in upgrading the Carrington pipeline.
