Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that he has no problem with Rasmus Hojlund copying his ‘SIU’ celebration in Denmark’s UEFA Nations League victory against Portugal.
Hojlund scored the only goal of the game to give his team a first leg win against the Portugal of Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.
Brian Riemer’s team are one goal ahead in their UEFA Nations League quarterfinal after Hojlund’s goal in the 78th minute on Thursday. The second leg will be played on Sunday.
Some of the fans accused the United striker of showing disrespect to a legend like Ronaldo but Hojlund insisted that Ronaldo is his idol.
“It’s for my idol,” Hojlund said as reported by The Mirror.
“It wasn’t to mock him or anything. He’s had such a huge impact on me and my football career.”
He added: “It was fantastic, it was a great day in many ways. I played against my idol and scored and was the match winner. It couldn’t have been written much better.”
Ronaldo has claimed that he has no problem with Hojlund using his celebration against him.
The Man United legend knows that several athletes around the world use his celebration since they admire him and Hojlund is one of them.
“No problem. For me, it’s not a problem,” the Al-Nassr star said, as reported by Tntsports.
“I knew it’s not because he does not have respect for me, of course not. I’m smart enough to understand that not only him but around the world other sportspeople do my celebration.
“For me, it’s an honour. But I hope tomorrow he can see my celebration.”
Ronaldo would be pumped to prove a point against Denmark on Sunday. He would love to do his celebration after scoring a goal for his country and reply to Hojlund.
Despite the fact that Ronaldo knows that Hojlund did not disrespect him, the competitive nature of Ronaldo is never going to go away and that is what makes him one of the best players of all time.
