Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly threatened to quit the Saudi Pro League, with uncertainty over whether he will see out his Al-Nassr contract to 2027. He has yet to win a major trophy in Saudi Arabia.
According to talkSPORT, the 41-year-old has notified senior figures at Al-Nassr that he is ready to leave.
He has not featured in Al-Nassr’s last two league matches and is said to be unhappy with funding, particularly after rivals Al-Hilal signed Karim Benzema from Al Ittihad in last month’s window. Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli are majority-owned by the Public Investment Fund.
Al-Nassr are due to face Arkadag of Turkmenistan for a place in the Asian Champions League Two quarterfinals. Ronaldo has not confirmed whether he will play.
In his absence, Al-Nassr beat reigning champion Al-Ittihad 2-0 on Friday.
Ittihad are the only one of three Saudi teams in the top-tier AFC Champions League Elite yet to secure a round of 16 berth, with two group games left. Despite losing Benzema to Al-Hilal last week, they will advance if they defeat Al-Gharafa of Qatar on Tuesday. The top eight in each of the tournament’s two 12-team groups qualify for the second round.
