Cruzeiro fans directed abuse at Leonardo Jardim during their Campeonato Mineiro title celebrations over Atlético-MG on Sunday, according to Coluna Do Fla.
A section of the support launched an expletive-laden chant at the Flamengo coach as players celebrated on the pitch. Jardim led Cruzeiro last year, then resigned citing personal reasons before accepting Flamengo’s offer in under three months, a move that has seen some fans label him a traitor.
While Cruzeiro were celebrating, Jardim was lifting the Campeonato Carioca trophy with Flamengo after victory against Fluminense.
He is set to face his former club on Wednesday at the Maracanã in the fifth round of the Brasileirão, with kick-off at 21:30 Brasília time.
Speaking about the reunion, the Portuguese played down any added emotion. He said Flamengo would follow normal preparation, focusing on recovery, giving minutes to those who featured less and building a team to control the game against an excellent side that fared well against Flamengo last year, which he hopes to end.
The night also brings Gerson’s first game against Flamengo since his turbulent exit last year, and the home crowd are set for a special reception.
