Dani Carvajal’s frustration is growing after another night on the bench, with Alvaro Arbeloa again preferring others at right-back for Real Madrid.

RadioMarca reports this was his eighth match on the bench since returning to fitness and was “difficult to digest”.

Cadena SER says he has the medical green light, yet the coaches doubt he is ready for competition and fear another relapse after two recent setbacks.

At Mestalla he was seen in animated discussion with fitness coach Antonio Pintus and appeared visibly upset.

Castilla’s David Jimenez started at right-back, then Trent Alexander-Arnold was sent on for the closing stages ahead of him, leaving the captain unused.

Carvajal believes he is ready to play, but accepts Fede Valverde starting there given his form and fitness.

Arbeloa said on Sunday that Carvajal is getting better, though he is not prepared to risk him yet.
