Daniel Farke revelled in Leeds United’s comeback as his side recovered from two goals down to earn a draw at Chelsea.
According to Leeds Live, the head coach felt an altered line-up caught Chelsea out, with enforced changes prompting a shift in shape and personnel.
Pascal Struijk missed out with a hip flexor issue, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin was injured and Noah Okafor dropped to the bench. Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha started, with six defenders named.
Jayden Bogle operated ahead of James Justin on the right, a calculated risk that paid off as Bogle produced a standout display. Farke was thrilled with the impact.
He said Bogle could play wide and between the lines, and felt Chelsea were surprised. He added that without conceding cheap goals they might have shown more of Bogle, and with more time he would likely have offered even more going forward. Farke did not want to break up Justin and Bogle’s understanding, noted Bogle had never played that role, praised his squad’s tactical flexibility and thanked his players for making the plan work.
The point proved significant on a night Tottenham lost again to slip behind Leeds in the table. West Ham then conceded a 96th minute equaliser to Manchester United, preventing them cutting the gap.
