Daniel Farke has been shortlisted for April’s Premier League Manager of the Month after Leeds’ surge towards safety, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
Leeds strung together their first consecutive league wins of the season against Manchester United and Wolves, then drew 2-2 at Bournemouth. The 2-1 at Old Trafford was their first league victory there since 1981. Seven points from nine lifted them to 40, and it feels they are just one win from guaranteeing another year.
Farke is on a seven-man shortlist with West Ham’s Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest’s Vitor Pereira, Pep Guardiola, Arne Slot, Andoni Iraola and Fabian Hurzeler. Public voting runs until 12pm on Monday, May 4, with fan votes combined with an expert panel to decide the winner.
Leeds could make it a double, with Noah Okafor up for Player of the Month after scoring twice at Old Trafford and adding a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Wolves.
Victory over Burnley on Friday would move Leeds to 43 points, a tally that has never resulted in relegation from a 20-team Premier League. Farke said his team have shown desire and want to keep going respectfully, staying focused. He added that one more win would ease the pressure and the earlier they secure points, the better.
Burnley visit with Mike Jackson as interim after Scott Parker’s exit on Thursday. The Clarets were relegated after last week’s 1-0 home loss to Manchester City and have won only four league games all season.
