Flamengo will assess Danilo as pre-season begins, with the centre-back likely to resume training only in the final week of January and be available for the Supercopa against Corinthians on 1 February in Brasília.

According to Globo.com, the squad return from holidays on Monday for evaluations after a gruelling 2025, with tailored programmes planned. Danilo, who managed a left knee problem late last year, needs a further one or two weeks to fully recover at the club.

He sustained a posterior cruciate ligament sprain in his left knee during October’s match against Palmeiras, entering in the second half to replace Léo Ortiz, who suffered a strain to his left ankle. The condition does not require surgery.

He trained and played through the issue in the run-in and scored the decisive goal in the Libertadores final, a 1-0 win over Palmeiras.

He received treatment during the break and is likely to continue his rehabilitation at the club, subject to discussions with the medical staff on his return.

Ortiz will also undergo specific checks. He returned late last year and played two Intercontinental Cup matches, but still feels discomfort in his left ankle, so Flamengo will decide whether he needs additional time to be fully fit.

Flamengo have signed centre-back Vitão from Internacional after his standout season, easing the immediate impact.
