Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck has agreed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of next season.
The 35-year-old’s existing deal included a 12-month option, which has now been activated.
The extension follows an impressive season in which Welbeck has reached double figures in the Premier League for the second time in his career.
He has scored 10 league goals in consecutive seasons, a personal best in the top flight.
His recent strikes in wins over Brentford and Nottingham Forest underlined his continued importance to Fabian Hurzeler’s side.
Since joining on a free transfer from Watford in October 2020, he has scored 48 goals in 191 appearances for the Seagulls.
Welbeck would enter rare territory in Premier League history with another goal.
Only Gary McAllister and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have previously scored more than 10 goals in a Premier League season for the first time at the age of 35 or older.
Welbeck now has the opportunity to match that milestone before the campaign concludes.
His form has even prompted discussion of a potential England recall ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
England manager Thomas Tuchel previously admitted he had considered Welbeck due to limited options at centre-forward behind Harry Kane.
While a return to the international stage remains uncertain, his club future is now clear.
Welbeck is part of a core of experienced players guiding Brighton through the latter stages of the season.
Alongside Lewis Dunk, Pascal Gross, Joel Veltman and James Milner, he provides leadership in a squad that blends youth with experience.
Brighton have climbed back to mid-table stability after a difficult spell earlier in the campaign.
The decision to retain Welbeck reflects both his goal output and his influence within the dressing room.
The 35-year-old continues to deliver at the highest level and has earned the opportunity to extend his Premier League career on the south coast.
