Darwin Nunez is now on the brink of leaving Liverpool. The Uruguayan is reportedly just a few details away from sealing the deal.

Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool shortly. The Uruguayan has been heavily linked with a move away all year and now it's finally here.

Anfield Watch exclusively revealed back in January that an offer had arrived from Al-Hilal for around £70m. Liverpool rejected this bid, not wanting to let a key player leave mid-season.

Now, as it turned out, Nunez didn't really feature all that much as Liverpool wrapped up the title. Their early exit in the UEFA Champions League eliminated pretty much any need for him.

Al-Hilal did then return to try and sign Nunez ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. He rejected them this time - a move to a major European side was now the priority.

And he appears to have got it.

Darwin Nunez on brink of Napoli transfer

El País in Uruguay claims Nunez is very close to joining Napoli. They say only details remain to get this one sealed, such as exact salary and payments to agents.

It has looked clear for a little while now that Napoli was Nunez's destination this summer. Reports out of Italy pushed the potential deal hard, with supposed talks around Federico Chiesa also happening.

And it's one that makes sense. Nunez is certainly a talented forward and he's heading to a title-winning team here.

But it's one in a league where his physical traits may just stand out a bit more than they have in England. We expect him to do very well under Antonio Conte, in fact, and perhaps come closer to recapturing the form that had Liverpool paying a small fortune for him.

The reality is that he's never lived up to that price tag and it's been clear this season that the potential won't be realised at Anfield. Certainly not under Arne Slot, who wants to head in a different direction.

Napoli it is, then.
