Real Madrid have confirmed David Alaba will leave at the end of the season after five seasons in Spain. The club said in a statement that his departure is agreed.
Alaba joined on a free from Bayern Munich in 2021. His time in Madrid brought success but also frequent setbacks, with 12 injuries across five seasons.
The statement noted an agreement with the out-of-contract defender to conclude his spell. Madrid hailed him as part of one of the most successful periods in their history.
He made 131 appearances and lifted 11 trophies, including two Champions Leagues in 2022 and 2024, two La Liga titles in 2022 and 2024, and the 2023 Copa del Rey.
Club president Florentino Pérez paid tribute to Alaba’s dedication and work, highlighting his role in the club’s 14th European crown and describing Madrid as his home.
The Santiago Bernabéu will honour him on Saturday in the final La Liga match of the season against Bilbao at 21:00. At 33, he will seek a new challenge.
