David De Gea has offered support to Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky after two errors led to his 16th-minute substitution in the Champions League last-16 first leg against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday.
According to L'Équipe, Kinsky was a surprise starter and was withdrawn by head coach Igor Tudor, leaving the field in tears.
It was the Czech's first appearance in the competition, and he is usually back-up to Guglielmo Vicario.
At half-time, De Gea, now at Fiorentina and aged 35, wrote that those who have not kept goal cannot truly grasp how demanding the position is. He urged Kinsky to keep his head up and said he would come back.
The Spain international, capped 45 times, previously played for Atlético from 2009 to 2011 and Manchester United from 2011 to 2023. His message may offer some comfort after a chastening night.
