Due to illness, Bayern Munich had to manage without Dayot Upamecano for their 2-0 Champions League win over Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Wednesday.
As head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed on Friday, the French centre-back will also miss Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Augsburg.
“He's ill. Unfortunately he's out,” Kompany revealed at his pre-match press conference.
“Let's see who else will be missing. Nobody else for physical reasons. But if a virus comes into the dressing room, I get scared. I hope nobody will be sidelined. But Upa will be in bed for a few more days - and hopefully nobody else,” he added.
Upamecano’s absence adds to Bayern’s defensive injury list, which also includes Sacha Boey, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić. Still, Kompany insists he has enough options.
“Josip Stanišić, Konrad Laimer, Sacha Boey and now Upa are all defenders we don't have. Nevertheless, we have good competition for places: Hiroki Ito is fit, Minjae is fit, Raphaël Guerreiro and Tom Bischof. Joschua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka can also play there for us," he said.
With Kim Minjae suspended for Bayern’s midweek clash against PSV, the South Korean defender looks likely line up alongside Jonathan Tah in the heart of defence.
"Minjae will definitely not play next week, that's in our thoughts - just like we did with Luis Díaz when he was suspended for the Champions League. But I never really worry about the starting XI because I've always been reassured by the reliability of the team,” Kompany added.
