Marc-Andre ter Stegen has received a heartfelt message from Frenkie de Jong after Ajax officially confirmed the German goalkeeper’s season-long loan from Barcelona until June 2027.

The move sees Ter Stegen leave Barcelona for the second consecutive transfer window, with Ajax expected to cover around 10-15% of his salary while the Catalan club continues to pay the remaining share.

De Jong’s touching message

Shortly after Ajax announced the signing, De Jong appeared in a video shared by the Dutch club to welcome his former teammate.

“Hi Marc, congratulations on your move. I already told you in person, but once again I’m really happy that you’re joining Ajax. I think everyone at the club is very happy as well,” he said.

The Dutch midfielder, who spent four years at Ajax before joining Barcelona in 2019, reflected on his own experience in Amsterdam.

“They’re getting a great player and a great person. The people in Amsterdam will take very good care of you, just as they did with me,” he said.

“The fans are incredible, the people are incredible, and the club is a wonderful place. I’m really excited to see you playing for Ajax. I’ll be supporting you from here,” De Jong added.

“All the best, and if you ever need anything, you can always call me.”

Ter Stegen responds

Ter Stegen thanked De Jong for his message, admitting it gave him confidence ahead of his new chapter.

“It’s good for me to know that I’m in good hands. Knowing how honest and direct he is, like probably most Dutch people, gives me a lot of peace of mind,” he noted.

The goalkeeper spent seven seasons alongside De Jong at Barcelona before completing his move to Amsterdam.

A fresh start after injury

Ter Stegen joins Ajax looking to rebuild his career after two difficult years affected by injuries.

Last season, during his loan spell at Girona, he managed just two appearances before suffering a left hamstring injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign, including the World Cup.

Now reunited with head coach Michel , whom he worked with at Girona, the German international will be aiming to regain full fitness and establish himself as Ajax’s first-choice goalkeeper with regular playing time.
