Deadline to pay Rojas passes, but Corinthians still negotiating debt deal

This Friday (7th) marked the end of the 45-day deadline for Corinthians to pay around R$ 41.5 million to the Paraguayan midfielder Matías Rojas, an amount determined by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). However, despite the risk of a possible punishment with a new transferban from FIFA, the player does not intend to trigger the entity to apply the sanction against the Alvinegro at this time.

The information was initially reported by ge.globo, which also found that Rojas and Corinthians are still negotiating an amicable solution. The player agreed to receive the amount in installments, but the parties are still discussing the terms and payment guarantees, which is considered central to the negotiations.

On Rojas's side, the talks are being conducted by lawyer Rafael Botelho, from the PVBT Law firm. At Parque São Jorge, the negotiations are led by president Osmar Stabile himself, along with other top-level Alvinegro executives. The Paraguayan has until January 2 of next year to formally file the complaint, should he wish to do so. For Corinthians, the only option is to negotiate, as the CAS decision is final.

It is worth remembering that, currently, the Alvinegro has been prevented since August 12 from registering new players due to the debt with Santos Laguna, from Mexico, regarding the purchase of defender Félix Torres. In addition, the club risks further sanctions due to other debts for which it has been reported to FIFA, regarding Maycon, Garro, Martínez, and Charles.
