Bryan Zaragoza also failed to impress at AS Roma. It is now clear what the future holds for the Bayern loanee, which means more work for Vincent Kompany in the summer.
The Spaniard is likely to return to FC Bayern in the summer. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Roma have decided not to exercise the agreed purchase option of 13 million euros, thus scuppering Munich’s plan to find a permanent buyer for the winger.
However, Bayern have made provisions for precisely this scenario. As Calciomercato recently reported, the loan agreement includes a clause that stipulates a penalty payment of 500,000 euros if Roma do not sign the player. The Munich club also secured a loan fee of around two million euros when the deal was concluded in February.
A permanent transfer could also have come about automatically, but two conditions had to be met: Roma had to qualify for a European competition and the player had to play at least 50 percent of the possible match minutes for Zaragoza.

Neither is currently in sight. Although Roma are in the region of the international places in the table, the Spaniard’s playing time is far from sufficient. Overall, he only made a few short appearances and did not play the full distance on the pitch once. His situation has recently worsened further. In three league games in a row, the coaching team has completely dispensed with the attacking player, who therefore no longer plays a sporting role.
As a result, his development has fallen far short of expectations. Neither in Munich nor during his loan spells has the 24-year-old been able to make a lasting impression. He has only played a handful of competitive matches for FC Bayern so far and there are no signs that he has any prospects in the current squad.
This means that those responsible for Vincent Kompany will once again be faced with the task of finding a solution for Zaragoza in the summer. However, it is also clear that Munich have significantly reduced the financial risk of this transfer thanks to the agreed clauses and the loan fee already collected.
