Manchester United have confirmed that, as expected, Tyrell Malacia will be leaving the club when his contract expires next month.
The defender made the matchday squad for this afternoon’s win over Nottingham Forest but was an unused substitute.

Post-match, when the players completed their lap of appreciation, Malacia was gifted with a commemorative shirt to mark his four-year tenure in Manchester.

He became Erik ten Hag’s first-ever signing back in July 2022, and played a rotational role in his maiden season while competing with Luke Shaw at left-back.
However, things went downhill for the Dutchman when he sustained a serious knee injury on the final day of the 2022/2023 campaign.
The problem kept him out of action for a whopping 18 months, making it a real uphill battle for him to reclaim his spot in the team when he returned from injury.
After missing the entirety of 2023/2024, Malacia made his first appearance for United following his layoff in December 2024. A month later, he was sent on loan to PSV Eindhoven, where he won a league title, but his move was not made permanent.
When numerous summer moves fell through last year, and nothing materialised at the start of 2026, it set in stone that the 26-year-old would be seeing out the final months of his contract in M16 before leaving as a free agent in June.
He has featured only twice in the Premier League this season, though only as a substitute, and the two outings totalled just seven minutes.
Malacia leaving and embarking on a new venture is undoubtedly the best decision for all parties in order for him to start afresh and revive his career elsewhere.
