Defeat against Hamburg

Artikelbild:Defeat against Hamburg

Can Uzun opened the scoring but Eintracht Frankfurt slipped to a 2-1 loss at home to HSV.

Two changes Head coach Albert Riera reshuffled his pack in two positions for the home game against Hamburger SV, with Ansgar Knauff and Jonny Burkardt coming in for Love Arrhov and Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab. Meanwhile, Kaua Santos and Jean-Mattéo Bahoya both returned to the squad following injury and were named among the substitutes. Chance for Uzun The visitors began by sitting back deep inside their own half, but looked dangerous when they sporadically got forward on the counter. The Eagles controlled the game and created their first opening in the 15th minute when Can Uzun’s shot from the edge of the box was saved by Daniel Heuer Fernandes.

Luck on Eintracht’s side

HSV nearly edged in front shortly after that when Fabio Vieira’s powerful drive from 20 metres crashed off the crossbar (20’).Quickfire opportunities for Eintracht Riera’s men carved out their next opening after Hamburg made a mistake in their build-up play, but once again Heuer Fernandes thwarted Uzun’s shot from 13 metres – and the goalkeeper came out on top once more in that particular duel just 60 seconds later.

Overall, Eintracht lacked a cutting edge in the final third in the first 45 minutes, leaving the game goalless at the interval.

Uzun breaks the deadlockEintracht began the second half with renewed purpose and had a sight of goal in the 47th minute when Knauff’s inch-perfect pass into the middle found Burkardt, but he didn’t make a clean connection when free in front of goal. The home fans were celebrating just 60 seconds later though. After HSV lost possession in midfield, the ball was worked to Uzun, who dribbled into the box and netted his seventh goal of the season (48’).

HSV fight back

Eintracht’s lead was short-lived though, as just three minutes later the unmarked Albert Grønbæk drilled in the equaliser following a corner (51’). Hamburg soon turned the game on its head, with Grønbæk floating a pass into the box for Vieira, who had time and space to pick out the bottom right corner to put HSV 2-1 up (59’).

Chance for EbnoutalibSubstitute Younes Ebnoutalib had a chance to level in stoppage time, but his volley was saved well by Hamburg’s goalkeeper (90’+3).

Kristensen sent offRasmus Kristensen received two bookings for fouls after coming off the bench and was shown the red card shortly before the final whistle, compounding a disappointing afternoon at Deutsche Bank Park.
