Manchester United might be handed a golden opportunity to sign a potential game-changer in the coming months.

United made six first-team signings in the summer, adding Matheus Cunha, Diego León, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens to their ranks.

Considering how crucial wing-backs are to Ruben Amorim’s system, many expected United to sign a more experienced and elite option than Leon, 18, this summer.

United signed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in January. The Dane has impressed with his athleticism, but he regularly fails to make the most of the space and time he is afforded on the left flank.

A report in Spain suggests the Red Devils are interested in one of Europe’s best wing-backs.

Manchester United could make move for Dumfries

According to Fichajes, United are among the clubs keen on signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.

They suggest the Mancunians “could consider signing him in the coming months.”

However, United are expected to face competition from Arsenal and Chelsea for the 29-year-old, who was Inter’s standout player in their Champions League run to the final. He registered five goal involvements in the competition.

The Netherlands international is tied to San Siro until the summer of 2028. It is understood the Nerazzurri are demanding around €25m to sanction his sale, a fairly reasonable price tag considering his experience and calibre.

Dumfries interested in Premier League switch

Meanwhile, Dumfries seems to be open to leaving Inter for a move to the Premier League.

“I play in Serie A and I’m comfortable at Inter, but I think I could do well in the Premier League too,” he recently said in an interview, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

“I’d definitely be interested. The Premier League is known for its intensity, while Serie A is one of the strongest leagues tactically.”

United should definitely explore the possibility of signing Dumfries, especially as Diogo Dalot has proven to an underwhelming presence on the right flank under Amorim.
