Leeds United and Crystal Palace were linked with a deal for Patrick Agyemang in the January transfer window

Patrick Agyemang has proven a smart signing by Derby County from last summer.

The striker joined from MLS outfit Charlotte FC ahead of the start of the campaign, and he has had a positive impact at Pride Park.

John Eustace’s side narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last year, but they now have their sights set on potentially earning a play-off place.

The Rams have not secured a top six finish in the second tier since 2019, where they reached the final before suffering defeat to Aston Villa.

Agyemang could be key to the side maintaining their promotion hopes, with the American already contributing 10 goals and three assists from 29 appearances in the league.

The 25-year-old has a contract with the Derbyshire outfit until the summer of 2029, giving the club a lot of leverage in any potential transfer talks at the end of the season.

It has been reported by Football Insider that both Leeds United and Crystal Palace are keen to reignite their January interest in Agyemang this summer.

The forward has impressed in his first season in English football, which has caught the eye of the two Premier League sides.

It was claimed in the winter market that Derby had set an asking price of £20 million in an effort to fend off any pursuit of the player.

However, it’s believed that the Rams are now considering an increase in this figure, as they look to maintain him beyond just one campaign at Pride Park.

The Whites are keen to bolster their forward options, with Joel Piroe’s future uncertain going into the final months of the term.

The Dutchman’s contract is set to expire in June 2027, and he has fallen down the pecking order of Daniel Farke’s side.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace could be seeking a replacement for Jean-Philippe Mateta, whose future is also up in the air at the moment.

Derby are currently three points outside the play-off places following their 2-0 loss to Watford last weekend.

The Rams fell to eighth as a result of that defeat, with just 13 games remaining in the campaign.

Next up for Eustace’s side is a trip to face fifth place Hull City this evening at the MKM Stadium in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Patrick Agyemang is a valuable asset to Derby County

Agyemang has made a strong impact for Derby since joining in the summer from the US in a deal worth a reported £7.3 million.

It was a gamble to bring in somebody with no experience of football in Europe, but he has settled in well at Pride Park, and his return of 10 goals has helped improve the team.

He could yet make the jump from the Championship to the Premier League in just one year in England given how well he’s made the transition, but Derby will be charging a premium for him if he is to move in the summer.

Leeds and Palace will surely have to pay more than the originally touted £20 million figure if he can end the season on a good run of form, making him a massively valuable asset to the Rams.
