Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen has on Monday undergone a surgical procedure, the club has announced.

This, of course, comes owing to developments in Barca’s La Liga meeting with Villarreal on Sunday.

The Blaugrana are fresh off making it five wins from five to open the campaign in Spain’s top-flight, courtesy of a 5-1 romp at El Madrigal.

On an otherwise positive day’s work for Hansi Flick’s troops, however, one major source of concern was also forthcoming, on the personnel front.

As much arrived late in the first-half, upon the aforementioned Marc-André ter Stegen landing awkwardly on his right foot, culminating in the German international being stretchered from the field of play in evident distress.

After a round of medical tests carried out this morning, Barcelona announced that their no.1 had suffered ‘a complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee’.

Ter Stegen, as a result, was forced under the knife.

And, as alluded to above, on Monday afternoon, the Blaugrana have provided a further insight into the outcome of the surgical procedure.

As per a statement across the club’s website and social media platforms:

‘First team player Marc Andre ter Stegen underwent successful surgery this afternoon on a patellar tendon injury in his right knee, performed by Dr Joan Carles Monllau under the supervision of the FC Barcelona Medical Services at the Hospital de Barcelona. He will be unavailable for selection until he has fully recovered.’
