A fresh insight into the plans of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid for the right-back spot in the club’s squad has on Thursday been provided.
The subject of potential right-back reinforcements has of course dominated the headlines in Spain’s capital over the course of recent days.
This comes after the Real Madrid brass opted to ramp up their pursuit of Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
After it was previously claimed that Los Blancos were only interested in the case of the England international becoming a free agent in the summer, Florentino Pérez and co. tabled a surprise bid to bring Alexander-Arnold in this month.
The offer in question was rejected out of hand, but the understanding is that the Spanish champions could yet return with an improved proposal before the month is out.
What, though, in the case of such endeavours coming up short?
As per a report from Marca, amid the ongoing absence of Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vázquez will remain the first-choice right-back in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad through the summer.
In the case of Vázquez not being available, Real will then turn towards one of Federico Valverde or Raúl Asencio to step in on the right of the club’s backline.
