Aston Villa, with Dibu Martínez and Emiliano Buendía, will face Germany’s Freiburg in the Europa League final.

England’s Aston Villa, whose two standout players are Argentinians Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez and Emiliano Buendía, will go for glory this Wednesday when they take on Germany’s Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League grand final.

The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. (Argentina time), will be played at the Tüpraş Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, will have live coverage from Noticias Argentinas, and will be available on ESPN, DAZN, and Disney+ Premium. The appointed referee is Frenchman François Letexier.

Aston Villa reached the Europa League final thanks to a 4-1 aggregate win over England’s Nottingham Forest. The key for the “Villans” came in the second leg, where they shone with a commanding 4-0 victory to turn the tie around after a 1-0 loss in the first leg.

If they win the title, Aston Villa will claim their fourth international trophy, after the 1982 Champions League and European Super Cup, as well as the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup.

“Dibu” Martínez will be looking to lift a club trophy for the fifth time in his career (he already won the FA Cup in 2017 and 2020 and the Community Shield in 2014 and 2020 with Arsenal), while Buendía has only won the EFL Championship (England’s second division) in 2019 and 2021 with Norwich City.

Freiburg, meanwhile, comes into this Europa League final as the tournament’s big surprise after qualifying by eliminating Portugal’s Sporting Braga in the semifinals with a 4-3 aggregate score. Earlier, the team coached by German Julian Schuster had knocked out Belgium’s Genk and Spain’s Celta de Vigo.

The winner of this title will earn a double reward, as they will qualify for both the European Super Cup and the next edition of the Champions League.
