Diego Moreira, who left Benfica on a free transfer and now plays for Strasbourg, has been named in Belgium’s 2026 World Cup squad. According to Glorioso 1904, the winger is again in Rudi Garcia’s plans.
The list also features names familiar to Benfica. Axel Witsel, now with Girona, and Dodi Lukebakio, Benfica’s No 11, have been selected.
Belgium will play at their 15th World Cup finals, their fourth in succession. Their best finish is third place in Russia in 2018 after a win over England, achieved under Roberto Martinez, now Portugal’s head coach.
Belgium are in Group G with Iran and New Zealand, and will open against Egypt. The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.
Moreira has made 41 appearances for Strasbourg this season, 26 in Ligue 1, 11 in the Conference League and four in the French Cup. Across 2,843 minutes he has four goals and seven assists. He is valued at 25 million euros.
