Diniz explains not using Gui Negão and Dieguinho in Corinthians friendly | OneFootball

Fernando Diniz left academy forwards Gui Negão and Dieguinho unused in Corinthians’ 1-1 friendly draw at Cascavel on Sunday, as both are attached to the under-20 side for the Brasileiro quarter-finals against Palmeiras.

According to Globo.com, the pair, though training with the senior squad, are temporarily with the academy and travelled only as cover in case of injury or substitutions. Midfielder Yago was also unused.

Diniz said they almost did not travel, went only to be available after getting minutes in midweek, and will now return to the under-20s before rejoining the first team after Thursday. He added that, without the midweek plan, they would have played in Cascavel.

Corinthians lost the first leg 1-0 to Palmeiras at Parque São Jorge. The second leg is on Thursday from 16:00 Brasília time at Arena Barueri, where the academy side will try to overturn the deficit.

The senior group also released Bahia and Gui Amorim for these under-20 fixtures.

Gui Negão remains in Diniz’s plans but is short of form after an injury during Brazil under-20 training. He has yet to make an appearance under the current coach and has lost the role as Yuri Alberto’s understudy to Pedro Raul.

He did not stand out in the recent youth match against Palmeiras. In 2026 he has 12 appearances, one goal and 637 minutes, below the levels that excited supporters last year.
