New Corinthians head coach Fernando Diniz has urged Memphis to extend his contract, which expires on 20 June, days before the World Cup. He set out his stance at his first press conference at CT Joaquim Grava.
According to Globo.com, Diniz hailed the Dutch forward as a global star and described his arrival in 2024 as a gift for Brazilian fans. He noted Memphis has been decisive in recent trophies and a constant threat to opponents.
Diniz said Memphis recognises his status, enjoys being at Corinthians and in Brazil, and relishes decisive moments. He added that players of this calibre are rare in Brazil and that he wants to build a story with him and lift more silverware.
Memphis is currently sidelined with a muscle injury sustained against Flamengo on 22 March. The medical department has not set a return date, but there is an expectation he could be back in the second half of April.
Signed in the second half of 2024, the no 10 has made 77 appearances and scored 20 goals. He has won Paulistão 2025, the Copa do Brasil 2025 and the Supercopa Rei 2026.
Behind the scenes, the board are seeking a commercial partner to help cover his wages. The club want clarity before the World Cup to avoid sending the forward to the tournament without a new deal.
