Despite taking the lead on three separate occasions, Manchester United had to be content with only a point from their Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday.
A 4-4 draw meant the Cherries have now scored three goals at the Theatre of Dreams for the third season in a row. While the attackers purred at times, the defence looked vulnerable each time the visitors went forward.
Ruben Amorim’s tactical tweak was partly to blame, as was his treatment of Leny Yoro, whose confidence looks shot at the moment.
One player, however, who has stepped up to the plate in recent times after a trying couple of weeks, is Diogo Dalot.
The Portugal international’s cross led to Amad‘s opener, and in the last three gameweeks, he has one goal and an assist to his name.
The ex-Porto ace has had to cop a lot of grief from certain section of the fanbase as well as from pundits, while his head coach also called him out for his lack of attacking output.
There were even murmurs of a potential sale in 2026, with Real Madrid reportedly one of his suitors. There has been interest from Bayern Munich and Spanish clubs in the past.
As per The Athletic, the Red Devils are well aware of the clubs interested in the versatile Portuguese defender, however, they have no intention of parting ways with the 26-year-old.
He is expected to fetch a decent sum, given he still has three more years left on his current deal. And the club are likely to make a decent profit given their initial outlay of a mere €22 million.
He is currently the second-longest serving member in the squad, is part of the new-look leadership group, and is rarely injured. All these factors mean INEOS do not want to part ways.
“United have no plans to sell him but do not think there would be a shortage of suitors.
“In fact, the club are of the opinion he would be one of their most in-demand players, partly because he is consistent, picks up few cards and because of the attributes listed above.”
Diogo Dalot is termed as a confidence player, someone who feeds off the crowd’s energy. And with Amad set to depart, he is likely to play in his favoured right wingback position.
He must deliver if United are to have any hopes of seeing off in-form Aston Villa away from home.
