Does Minjae Kim clear the way for Vuskovic? This is how Bayern plan

Minjae Kim’s future at FC Bayern remains uncertain. Although the South Korean is currently regarded as a reliable backup in defense, behind the scenes those responsible have long been considering possible scenarios for his departure

When Kim moved to Munich from SSC Napoli for around €50 million in the summer of 2023, the expectations were enormous. The „best defender in Serie A“ at the time was expected to become the new leading figure in the Bayern defense. But almost three years later, the picture is much more sober

Under Vincent Kompany, Kim has not established himself as an undisputed regular, but has instead slipped into the role of a rotation player. At the same time, his market value has also fallen significantly – from 60 million euros to around 25 million euros

Bayern waiting for a suitable offer

Kim has been talked about as a potential sales candidate for some time now, but a financially attractive offer is a prerequisite for his departure – and that is exactly what is currently lacking

As BILD reporter Heiko Niedderer reports in the Bayern Insider podcast, there is currently „no movement whatsoever“ surrounding the central defender, with no concrete offers being made and no talks taking place

The recent rumours of interest from AC Milan have also proven to be unfounded. Nevertheless, it should be noted that Kim continues to enjoy an excellent reputation, particularly in Italy. A return to Serie A is therefore not out of the question

Vuskovic as a possible successor

Internally, however, Bayern already have a clear plan in the event of a sale. As BILD head of soccer Christian Falk explains, the Munich club would be prepared to let Kim go if a suitable offer came along. „They would sell Kim if a good offer came along.“

Such a move could have a direct impact on the transfer strategy. „Then they could enter the Vuskovic poker, for example,“ says Falk, referring to Luka Vuskovic, who currently plays for Hamburger SV and is one of the most exciting defensive talents in Europe

The personnel matter shows that the topic of central defense is far from over at FC Bayern: „The topic of central defenders at FC Bayern is still hot, but only if Kim is sold,“ Falk clarifies

This creates a clear starting position: as long as Kim remains in Munich, there is no acute need for action. However, should a transfer opportunity arise, Bayern are prepared – and could initiate the next step in their long-term squad planning.
