Manchester City’s positive start under new boss Andrée Jeglertz continued with a 4-1 defeat of London City Lionesses at The Joie Stadium this afternoon.

Vivianne Miedema and Laura Blindkilde Brown netted early goals to send Manchester City on their way before Khadija Shaw added a second half brace. Nikita Parris got her name on the scoresheet for the visitors.

It was Miedema who opened the scoring for the hosts after 11 minutes. Grace Clinton advanced from inside her own half and she then found Kerstin Casperij who looped the ball in for Miedema to head into the back of the net.

Manchester City’s second goal came three minutes later when Blindkilde Brown fired the ball straight into the bottom corner.

Parris then swiftly reduced the arrears against her former club to bring London City Lionesses back into the game. She whipped the ball past home keeper Ayaka Yamashita.

The Pride continued to respond well and Izzy Goodwin fired wide from long range before Parris tried to net a second goal, but her effort from an acute angle was deflected wide.

At the other end, a cross from the lively Casperij again found Miedema. She did well to get her head to the ball but Elene Lete was able to make a save.

Manchester City were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute after a Shaw shot was handled by Saki Kumagai. The Jamaican international stepped up to convert from the spot.

Laura Coombs then went close before The Cityzens won another penalty when Wassa Sangaré tugged Shaw down. The striker got her second goal of the afternoon by picking out the same corner of Lete’s net.

Following this afternoon’s victory, Manchester City turn their attention towards a home fixture against Arsenal on Saturday. London City Lionesses’ next match is at home to Liverpool next Sunday.
