Dominic Calvert-Lewin could equal a 65-year Leeds United record if he scores against Sunderland, with the striker on a five-match Premier League streak.
He matched his career-best run in the win over Crystal Palace, having also scored in five straight games at the start of 2020/21 with Everton. According to the BBC, John McCole was the last Leeds player to make it six in the top flight, in 1959/60.
McCole’s burst brought nine goals in six, finishing with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea.
Goals had been a problem for Leeds in the Premier League until the Manchester City game, but Calvert-Lewin’s form has lifted the squad. He has also been backed for an England call-up with the World Cup on the horizon.
Another goal would be a new personal best and a notable milestone. Leeds were relegated in 1959/60 despite McCole’s 22 goals, and Daniel Farke will be hoping history does not repeat itself.
