Dorival Júnior on top performers and Corinthians youngsters after win

On the afternoon of this Saturday, the 25th, Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In a match held at Barradão, in Salvador, valid for the 30th round of the national competition, Timão faced Vitória and, in a balanced game, won 1-0, with a goal by Charles at the end of the second half. With this, the team reached 39 points, temporarily rising to ninth place in the standings.

After the match, coach Dorival Júnior addressed the press in a press conference, explaining Carrillo's starting position: “He had been working very hard, very hard. And I felt that he would be able to deliver at least 45 minutes for us. He went a bit beyond that. I'm happy with that. He returned within his characteristics. Now the process is continuous, seeking evolution, improvement. And another player there to help us, assist us, at such an important moment in the championship.”

Another midfielder mentioned was the defensive midfielder Raniele, whose role as a third defender against Vitória was detailed by the coach. “He performs one role defending, another attacking. After Bidon's expulsion, we placed him a bit more inside, as Vitória's team had some spaces there. Raniele has been executing this role, developing, feeling very good, very comfortable. The team feels more confident. And it's a condition that is altered within the game, depending on what the opposing team is proposing”, he stated.

The Venezuelan Martínez was also praised: “It was an excellent performance. The speed that Vitória's team puts in his sector would certainly bring us problems, but he sustained the game very well, playing with simplicity, within his best conditions, fighting, giving his all. We had few problems there, in that sector. I think that's an important fact.”

It is worth remembering that Corinthians did not have the right-back Matheuzinho, being short-handed in this sector of the defense. Dorival revealed that one of the possible alternatives in the future is the young João Vitor, the Jacaré, who is being prepared. “Jacaré is being prepared at the right moment. When he shows us that he is fully capable, he will have an opportunity for sure”, he assured.

Additionally, the coach spoke about Felipe Longo and Matheus Donelli, alternatives to Hugo Souza in the Corinthians goal. “Donelli appeared in a negotiation that was practically finalized. Longo was in a process of evolution, growing at every moment. I made a choice, without discrediting Donelli, but waiting for the negotiation (of Donelli)”, he said.

Dorival stated that he considers the position well-served, with Corinthians preparing several young goalkeepers with experience in youth national teams, and that competition is important for the number 1 alvinegro: “The important thing is that they continue fighting, continue competing for positions, putting pressure on Hugo, showing that they are also there, present and able to fight for a position. I think that's what we want. The more competition, the more individual evolution and gain in the collective.”
