Dorival Júnior has ruled out Corinthians signing Alisson from São Paulo, drawing a line under a deal that had appeared close.
Confirming the decision after the 2-1 loss to Bahia at Vila Belmiro, the coach said it was time to move on. According to Meu Timao, talks had progressed in recent weeks.
He praised the 32-year-old from their time together, saying his profile would have helped, but accepted the outcome. He added he had spoken earlier because the deal seemed almost done.
After the 1-1 draw with Santos on 21 January in the Paulista, he discussed Alisson’s fit, then apologised for speaking about a player owned by another club.
Despite reaching an understanding with São Paulo, the Parque São Jorge club lacked the R$ 1 million cash requested to finalise a loan running until the end of 2026.
On Monday, Alisson visited CT Dr. Joaquim Grava to see the facilities. He neither signed nor underwent medicals or trained, as the move still hinged on a financial resolution.
With debts above R$ 2.8 billion, priorities are instalments to Toluca for Pedro Raul and resolving about R$ 32 million owed to Talleres for Rodrigo Garro, which could bring another transfer ban. The first Regime Centralizado de Execuções payment, due in March, equals 4% of February revenues.
Without Alisson, Corinthians face Flamengo on Sunday 1 February at 16:00 at Mané Garrincha in the 2026 Supercopa do Brasil. Brasília will host with an even split of fans, and the winners take the season’s first trophy.
